LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The City Rescue Mission of Lansing will officially open a new shelter location in downtown Lansing Tuesday, Aug. 26, the organization announced Monday.
The location, which the City Rescue Mission calls a Single Adult Shelter (SAS), will begin operations at 415 W. Kalamazoo St on Tuesday, housing the organization’s men’s shelter services, previously located on Michigan Ave.
Additionally, the shelter will host the Outreach-Drop-in Center, which the City Rescue Mission says will help serve the city’s homeless population by providing food and shelter in a “centralized location.”
Construction on the new location began in 2024. According to the organization’s website, the project entailed renovating the facilities to install dorm rooms, offices warming kitchen, and cafeteria, as well as bathroom and shower facilities. Additionally, two separate properties had to be combined into one.
While the initial focus of the project was on increasing the City Rescue Mission’s ability to house men, the shelter says they hope additional expansion would allow them to house single women as well, which would then increase the number of beds available at the women and children’s shelter.
As a part of the “transition,” the organization’s donation center is temporarily closed, expected to open by mid-September. City Rescue Mission says updates will be posted to their website.
