State housing committee hearings There have been 3 housing committee hearings so far this legislative session, and the Rent Is Too Damn High coalition has held a presence at every one of them. Let’s keep it up! Tuesday, September 26, 12:00pm: Senate Housing & Human Services Committee, Capitol Room 403 At time of drafting this email we don’t yet know what’s on the agenda for this meeting, but we will be there to maintain a presence as we’ve been doing every week. Thursday, September 28, 10:30am: House Housing Subcommittee, Anderson House Office Building Room 326 – ATTENDING THIS HEARING IS THIS WEEK’S TOP-PRIORITY CALL TO ACTION Two important bills are scheduled to be heard: a Bill of Rights for Unhoused People (HB 4919), and Fair Chance Access to Housing (HB 4878). Lansing-based unhoused advocates have been fighting for the Bill of Rights, and coalition partner Nation Outside has been pushing over a year for Fair Chance housing. For background on Fair Chance, I highly recommend checking out Nation Outside’s Housing Not Hurdles website: https://www.nationoutside.org/housingnothurdles We will share more information about future committee agendas as soon as we have them. For questions about committee hearings, contact Aaron Mahoney of For Our Future (517-214-2243 // amahoney@forourfuturefund.org). Aaron is the lead organizer of this effort on behalf of the coalition, and he will be present at each hearing. |
